Funding Application
Funding Information:
Church Walking Pilgrimages can support churches wanting to cater for walking (or cycling) pilgrims by giving £1000 per church to provide a compost toilet or a simple pilgrim bothy. It can also advise on compost toilets from experience of building and using and planning applications.,
The money will be given on the understanding that the church allows simple walking pilgrims, i.e. those coming without cars or back-up support, to use these facilities, for one night only, and can also provide a small space for the pilgrim to unroll their bed mat, in the church or nearby church hall or building without charge (though asking for donations in the normal way is entirely appropriate).
Your application for funding should include:
Contact Name, Address, Tel No, Email
Church Name and Parish
Agreement of Parochial Parish Council for pilgrims to stay and use the toilet.
Diocesan agreement, including, health and safety, planning, listed building consent if structural works are required (go to your Diocese website, Care of Churches for procedures).
Broad description of scheme, one paragraph is sufficient
Declaration that your church welcomes walking pilgrims and will provide a place for them to stop for one night only while on their pilgrimage, free of charge (though donations can be encouraged), this for the foreseeable future but in any case for at least ten years.

Funding Sources
Usually little funding is necessary to cater for walking pilgrims. However if a toilet needs to be built, funding will be required, which may be substantial. Mulcheney's recent experience was £70k, but this involved much work of all kinds (see their website, note they raised the funding). In addition to Church Walking Pilgrimages there are other sources for this type of scheme if necessary including:
Heritage Lottery
Crowd Funding
Government Community and Environment Grants (search Government grants for community projects)
